Torres del Paine O – Circuit

Trekking tour in Patagonia’s most famous national park

Guestpost: Karen S., MOSER Active | Jan 2024

We flew over the fascinating Patagonian Ice Field, which resembled a white desert and captivated me. The eternal ice of the ice sheet gradually gave way to the barren steppe, which was lined with bizarre rock formations and deep blue lakes. When we arrived in Puerto Natales, Christian Moser from the local trekking tour operator MOSER Active welcomed us personally. As soon as we had left the airport, a strong gust of wind swept us away, making us feel the raw power of this region. In the evening, we met our MOSER Active trekking guide and the team of porters who would be accompanying us on the Torres del Paine O Circuit, the entire circumnavigation of the Torres del Paine massif.

First encounters

The next morning, our journey took us into Torres del Paine National Park. Sheep, Ñandus and guanacos lined the way, while the first snow-capped peaks appeared on the horizon. An unforgettable sight awaited us at Laguna Amarga: the three imposing Torres granite towers reflected in the still water.

In the heart of the wilderness

Our hike took us through the remote parts of the park. At Campamento Serón, we enjoyed the peaceful tranquillity and the breathtaking views. A gaucho treated us to a hearty asado in his hut before we retired to our tents under the clear starry sky.

New challenges day after day

We battled against the wind, hiked through dense forests and crossed snow-covered passes. Again and again we were rewarded with breathtaking views: the milky green Lago Paine, the mighty Grey Glacier, the turquoise lake at the foot of the Paine Grande.

Unforgettable moments

At Lago Grey, we watched as huge chunks of ice crashed into the water. Condors circled in the sky above us as we hiked along Lago Skottsberg. In the evening, we enjoyed the company of gauchos at the Paine Grande Lodge, who entertained us with guitar music and stories.

Highlight and farewell

The last section took us to the Torres peaks. We hiked through the Ascencio Valley in the footsteps of the pumas until we finally reached the granite needles that towered majestically into the sky. MOSER Active provided us with an unforgettable week and a pleasant travel atmosphere. I will look back fondly on this extraordinary circumnavigation, which we ultimately completed successfully with our trekking guide. We said goodbye to this magnificent landscape with a tear in our eye and returned to civilization.

A journey that leaves its mark:

Circumnavigating the Torres del Paine massif was an unforgettable experience that allowed us to experience the power and beauty of nature. The memories of this trip will live on in our hearts for a long time to come.
